Quanto più fittamente la terra si popola,
e quanto più meccanico diventa il modo di vivere,
tanto più indispensabile deve diventare la musica.
Verrà un giorno in cui essa soltanto permetterà di sfuggire alle strette maglie delle funzioni,
e conservarla come possente e intatto serbatoio di libertà dovrà essere il compito più importante della vita intellettuale futura.
